Released: Tuesday 18th February 2014 at 12:31

Sunderland has been named as one of the best universities to work at in the UK, in a national survey.

The University of Sunderland scored highly in several categories of the Times Higher Education’s 2014 THE Best University Workplace survey.

The categories included: “The leadership of my university is performing well” – 72% agreed (3rd best in the UK); “My work responsibilities allow for a healthy work-life balance” – 63% agreed (joint 4th in the UK); “My university offers a fair deal to its employees in terms of working conditions and benefits” – 88% agreed (joint 2nd in the UK); “I can make my voice heard within my university” – 66% agreed (2nd in the UK); and “I am not looking to leave my current job” – 78% agree (top score of all UK universities).

This is the first time that the THE Best University Workplace survey has been published.

Over the course of several months in 2013, more than 4,500 higher education staff from 150 institutions across the UK completed the online survey.

University of Sunderland Vice Chancellor Peter Fidler said: “This is reassuring news to achieve such high scores in the inaugural THE best University Workplace survey.

“This is testament to all the hard work and commitment our staff put in to ensure the student experience is at the heart of all we do.

“I am incredibly proud of all that our dedicated staff have achieved to make Sunderland one of the best places to work in the UK. We are committed to ensuring that we build on this success into the future.”
